Wittenborg’s chair of the executive board, Peter Birdsall, was in Olympic-city, Sochi, in Russia, on Wednesday to discuss a possible academic partnership between Wittenborg and the Russian International Olympic University.
Sochi shot to global fame when it hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and is Russia biggest and busiest sea resort area. It continues to support many large sport events such as the FIFA Confederations Cup, currently on until 2 July, 2017, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Birdsall is in Moscow until Friday for the Higher School of Economics (HSE) International Partners Week which started Monday. The HSE has over 300 partners with international universities and research organisations, and is participating in several international comparative studies.
The Russian International Olympic University was founded by President Vladimir Putin in the build-up to the Winter Olympics.
Birdsall said of his visit: “I was impressed with the new learning facility. I paid them a visit to discuss collaboration opportunities and a possible academic partnership. They offer post-graduate (Master) programmes in Sport Management and have a master class with many international students from around the world taught by a highly international faculty, many of whom fly in from other universities.”
