Apeldoorn Residents Meet at Brinklaan Campus to Discuss Amaliapark Safety
Community comes together at Wittenborg
On 19 and 26 January, Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences hosted its neighbours from Apeldoorn for a roundtable discussion on public safety, organised by Eurus. Around 30 people, including Wittenborg staff, representatives of the municipality, local police, Kadaster and youth work professionals, met in a classroom of the Brinklaan campus to voice concerns and brainstorm ideas about how to make the Amaliapark even safer.
The Amaliapark is a local park located in front of the Brinklaan campus, which many Wittenborg staff members and students walk through each day as they arrive and leave for work or classes. The park is a beautiful location, complete with pleasant landscaping and stream. While it is mostly populated with dogwalkers and passers-by in the morning, during the afternoon and evenings the park is a hang-out for local teenagers and young people, including Wittenborg students, though it is usually relatively calm.
Those present were asked to note down the challenges to safety. They were also asked to identify opportunities for increasing safety in the park, as well as its qualities. Several solutions were created to enhance personal safety, such as better lighting in the area, which can get rather dark at night, to avoid people bumping into each other or stepping into the stream. There was also mention of increasing security in the area and around the location.
WUAS views public safety as a top priority, and is happy to cooperate with the Municipality of Apeldoorn and its residents to create a better environment for living and learning. The school is pleased to see action being taken to improve local security for students, staff members and Apeldoorners.
