High Praise for Wittenborg's Post Graduate Teaching Programme

Aiming to Bolster Quality of Teaching

Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences has just seen its second group of lecturers complete the Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching & learning in Higher Education. The programme is offered to postgraduates looking to obtain an internationally recognised teaching qualification in higher education. The next starting date is September 2019.

The PGCert programme is offered in collaboration with Wittenborg's UK academic partner, the University of Brighton. The programme is open to both Wittenborg academic staff and external academics, and is taught over one academic year in 5 block sessions. It aims to bolster the quality of teaching and improve student experience in the classroom, while providing continuous professional development.

The latest group have just completed their last modules, culminating in a poster presentation. One of those who participated was Dr Dadi Chen, who said: "I could see everyone appreciated the opportunity to learn how to improve our teaching in a scientific way. Nearly half of the participants, including me, are new teachers at Wittenborg. It was really a great challenge to attend the training and also to cope with our new busy working agenda.

"We spent a lot of time reading literature and writing assignments after work. We really learned a lot from the courses, especially in critical reflections of our own teaching and assessment. With various research tools and approaches provided by Brighton lecturers, we became more aware of the rationale behind our teaching behaviour and more conscious about the choices we make in designing, delivering and evaluating our modules. We feel very grateful for the opportunity provided by Wittenborg and the high-quality courses delivered by Brighton teachers."

Wittenborg Spanish teacher Marivi Martinez Brocca said: "I generally enjoyed it, although the schedule is demanding. One of the useful things I learned was about planning lessons effectively and different methods of teaching, such as providing feedback with the idea that the skills that the student learns from your feedback are applicable to future assignments, in other modules and in their chosen profession."
