Wittenborg Students Impress Members of Rotary Club

Students from Wittenborg University had a unique opportunity this week to network with members of a local Rotary club – an esteemed international organisation for business owners and managers. The event was hosted at Wittenborg’s Spoorstraat-building in Apeldoorn.

Rotary in the Netherlands has around 500 clubs with an estimated 19 000 members. Worldwide it has a presence in 200 countries and geographical regions with 1.2 million members. Membership are granted by invitation only. In Apeldoorn there are 5 Rotary clubs.

Wittenborg’s CEO, Maggie Feng, gave a presentation on Wittenborg, its history and ambitions. Members of the Rotary Club - whose professions ranged from banker to architect, doctor, environmental specialists and business people - were also interested to hear from students on what it is like to study in a foreign country, what attracted them to the Netherlands and to Wittenborg and the university’s academic structure.

The students who attended were Mariana Góes, Tuan Anh, Anmol Pradhan, Yujing Zhang, Mukadas Kolawole Alashe, Eric Cover and Muhammad Fawad Javaid.

Feng said Wittenborg wants to remain small, but broaden its programmes. After already establishing its School of Business and its School of Hospitality it is focusing this year on launching a School of Sport and Health in the autumn. That will eventually be followed by a School of Art & Technology and a School of Education.

One of the students, Mukadas Kolawole Alashe from Nigeria, said he was excited to attend the event "because Rotary is all over the world" and he learned about them when he stayed in Malaysia for 4 years. "I've never regretted coming to study at Wittenborg. It's a great school."

Brazilian student, Mariana Góes - who at 23 has already held various marketing managing positions in Brazil and speak French, English and Spanish - made an impression on guests. She will graduate in July and said she is available for a job in the Netherlands.
